I received this “Men Of A Certain Age” promotion in the mail the other day.

I loved the packaging and it was super easy to plug into my computer and watch the 19 minute preview on the USB “cassette tape” I’m just wondering who exactly this show is for. The promo says:

The older you get the more things change.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

A story about your husband, your brother, your best friend.

Men Of A Certain Age.

After watching the preview I couldn’t say that I would want to be any of the characters, they all seemed to be in very stagnant life situations. It reminded me a bit of the British show Manchild.

The show premieres on TNT Monday December 7th.

Inspired by end of the decade movie lists, I started to think about trends in television shows and which ones have managed to survive.

Love Monkey is one crazy example of how a show that aired only 4 years ago can feel completely dated. It was an idealistic show about a New York A&R rep who believed that finding the “new classics” in music was all that mattered. Find music that meant something and the money would follow.

It’s depressing just watching the opening credits filled with shots of Tower Records and CBGB’s. Love Monkey premiered in January 2006 and it only lasted for 3 episodes. Tower Records and CBGB’s were both gone by the end of the year.

While I personally loved the watching this show, it demonstrates how out of touch television can be sometimes. Its no wonder this show died so quickly when the music lifestyle it romanticized was soon to follow.

Last week’s episode of Mad Men was amazing. There were so many great moments, but this clip was my favorite. Peggy realizes she has the power to accomplish her dreams, and go beyond the expectations of a what woman’s role is.

Interesting that Bravo Project Runway links still get top billing in google searches. Viewers will eventually end up on the Lifetime site for info about the current season but Bravo is sure to still get some extra page views in the process.
